0-60 mph: Winner – Volkswagen

The Subaru took just 3.168 seconds to touch the mark, but the VW was even quicker. It sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 2.974 seconds

The first round was the 0-60 mph individual test. Here, the Subaru took just 3.168 seconds to touch the mark. The Volkswagen, on the other hand, was quicker. It took just 2.974 seconds to touch 60 mph from a standstill. Well, thank the dual-clutch auto gearbox and the all-wheel-drive system.

Winner: Volkswagen Golf R Estate

Quarter-Mile Run

Quarter-Mile Run: Winner – Subaru

The Scooby ran the distance in 11.382 seconds at 125.66 mph. The German was almost as quick, taking 11.507 seconds at 122.49 mph to complete the distance

The Scooby went first and ran the quarter-mile in 11.382 seconds with a trap speed of 125.66 mph. The Volkswagen Golf R Estate was a tad bit slow, but still fairly impressive. It took 11.507 seconds at 122.49 mph to complete the quarter-mile distance.

Seeing how closely matched both the wagons were in their respective quarter-mile runs, the race was going to be exciting. The Subaru was quicker off the line in the first race and managed to keep the lead till the very end. It looked like it would be a mighty close race, perhaps one of the cars beating the other by the nose, but it wasn’t. The WRX STI wagon beat it by at least three car lengths.

The driver of the Golf R Estate, Yuri, wanted to give it another shot. So, they raced again to see if the German wagon would get a better and smoother start off the line. As it turns out, it did! The Golf R Estate sped off the line, leaving the WRX STI in the dust. The latter was able to get quite close by the end, but not enough to win. With the way the Subaru was going, the result could’ve been different had this been a half-mile race. But, the Japanese hit a snag and that could’ve been the reason for the result.

Winner: Volkswagen Golf R Estate

The next two races belonged to the VW. In one of these, the Subaru hit a hurdle, but the next one was as close as it could get, which the German eventually won again

After fixing it up, they raced for the third time, and this was the closest race of them all. The wagons were neck-and-neck halfway, but then the Volkswagen edged slightly forward. In the end, it won by barely a car length.

Winner: Volkswagen Golf R Estate

Roll Race

The rolling race was up next. The Subaru had a better kickdown here and got the lead as soon as they touched the starting line. The Volkswagen couldn’t catch it and eventually lost the race. There was just one roll race, and it belonged to the WRX STI wagon.

Winner: Subaru WRX STI

Frank Stephenson can be credited with designing some of the most iconic cars of modern times

When discussing the design of the automobiles featured in the game, Stephenson stated that most of the cars featured are more often than not, a blend of two popular cars. This is done to avoid Rockstar from being sued.

The Premise for the Design

Next, he sketched out the car from the front 3/4 angle

With his latest creation, Frank took design elements from not two, three, or even four cars. The final design that Stephenson has come up with takes inspiration from six of his most memorable cars, including the likes of the Maserati MC12, Ferrari F430, Ferrari FXX, McLaren P1, Ford Escort Cosworth, and the Mini Cooper.

While most game cars take inspiration from one or two models, Frank much further with Frankenstein, which drew inspiration from six of his most successful designs of all time

As with any of Stephenson’s designs, he began by sketching the vehicle’s side profile on a sheet of paper. He then proceeded to draw the car from the front three-quarter angle. This is where you can really begin to see the car take shape. Stephenson then goes on to sketch the lines of the car from the rear three-quarters. The final bit was to transform these sketches into 3D.

The End Result

Behold, the Frankenstein is finally here

And with that his creation was ready. Stephenson’s car is dubbed “Frankenstein,” and to say that it is eye-catching would be an understatement. It has the same dimensions as the MC12 and a front fascia that is reminiscent of the Trident sports car and the Ferrari F430. The side profile and cockpit shape resemble the McLaren P1 and 12C.

So overall, Frankenstein is a stellar effort by Frank Stephenson. He has made the files of the car available for anyone to download and tinker with. We cant wait to see what people do with it. Swipe Up to Read More

The top view of Frankenstein is especially stunning because it shows off the car’s width, especially around the back. The tail end is equally bold and purposeful with several components being shared with the likes of the FXX, and the Escort Cosworth. They include elements like the exhaust units, the taillights, and those exaggerated wings and spoilers.

Conclusion

Upon numerous requests from purists and fans alike, he has now created a one-off mock-up of a car dubbed the ’Frankenstein’ for GTA V

In the end, Stephenson adds that one of the reasons he stopped designing supercars and hypercars was because not many people actually got to enjoy his creations. But now with Frankenstein, he is actually making the digital files available for the public to download and play around with the design of the car themselves.

Does Devel Sixteen still ring any bells? Well, that’s the nickname of this missile on wheels, which is made by Devel Motors based in Dubai. They claim that it would become the world’s most powerful road-going hypercar.

That might be pushing it, but when it comes to this collection of automotive superlatives, the numbers speak for themselves. The Devel features a 16-cylinder 12.3-liter engine that produces a colossal 5007 horsepower and tops out at a whopping 348 mph. With such outrageous numbers, I guess they have a point.

The Test Run

With a name that aptly describes this beast, the Devel Sixteen has rarely been spotted. But we got lucky as a video has now surfaced online of the hypercar built in Dubai. In the video, the car can be seen with its engine running and wheels rolling. It comes courtesy of one of its creators, Rashid Al-Attar, who put it up on his Instagram channel, while the Devel was undergoing a trial run in Italy.

From the video, it looks like the Devel Sixteen is still a long way from being delivered to a customer. But we aren’t complaining because the video at least gave us a chance to hear that V-16 naturally aspirated engine.

Performance

The 5,000-HP Devel 16 Is Alive And Testing, And Boy Does It Sound Brutal - image 1006991

With a massive 12.3-liter V-16 engine and a claimed output of 5007 horsepower and 3757 pound-feet of torque, the Devel Sixteen is predicted to get from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.

Devel Sixteen specifications
Engine/Powertrain: 12.3-liter quad-turbo V-16 engine
Horsepower: 5,007 horsepower
Torque: 3,757 pound-feet
0 to 60 MPH: 1.8 seconds
Top speed: 348 mph

Obviously, this hypercar still has a lot to prove, but if it lives up to its promises, many current hypercars from the likes of Bugatti, Koenigsegg, or even Rimac will have to work hard to keep up with the Devel. It’s no walk in the park to develop so much power from an engine, even if it has 16 cylinders. The Devel will also have to contend with the increasingly stringent anti-emission regulations which are coming into force.

To Sum it Up

When exactly will we see the Devel Sixteen’s final version? Well that’s the million-dollar question isn’t it: Because, since 2008 (the year that the Devil made its debut), there have been numerous issues, ranging from engine reliability to aerodynamic refinement. Regardless, this video does look promising to the few customers who have ordered it. At least we know for a fact the car is actually underway. Watch this space.

Hennessey Wants To Give The Ram TRX and Durango SRT A Hellephant Swap

We Could Be Looking At Two 1,200+ Horsepower Vehicles Here

In the video, John Hennessey talks about pairing the Hellephant engine with the Ram 1500 TRX and the Durango SRT. The Hellephant engine is a homage to the 426 HEMI V-8 from the past. Mopar sells the Hellephant as a crate engine, which it unveiled at the 2018 SEMA Show. It displaces at seven liters and comes with a 3.0-liter supercharged that made 15 pounds of boost. The result of this was 1,000 horses and 950 pound-feet of torque.

The aftermarket company has already tried this in the TRX when it built a 6×6 version of the truck called the Mammoth. But, coming from Hennessey, no stick figures are even enough. So, they tuned it up to produce 1,200 horses, thus making it one of the most powerful trucks ever. The company has even tuned-up the standard 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 Hellcat engine and offers the TRX with it. It makes 310 horses and 319 pound-feet of twist more than the stock truck, which brings the power output to 1,012 ponies and 969 pound-feet of torque.

John even mentioned Hennessey’s got about 60 TRXs in total, so it seems like a popular choice for the Hellephant build in the four-wheel-drive avatar. For now, the company has got two Hellephant crate motors with it, which could mean both, the TRX and the Durango, getting one engine each. We could see these builds make more than 1,200 horses and perhaps, over 1,000 pound-feet of torque too.

Conclusion

This video was the first episode of a new ‘Hellephant Madness’ series, so we could see the crate engines being plonked into the vehicles in the upcoming videos. If you were to make a decision, which vehicle would you choose to be powered by the 7.0-liter, 1,000-horsepower Hellephant engines? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Although it might not attract as many visitors as a Christmas market, the exhibit enables passers-by to marvel at the La Voiture Noire. If you’re a car enthusiast, this is nothing to sneeze at, as the La Voiture Noire is a one-off that already has an owner. It’s a rare opportunity to see it in the metal and get a bit more personal with the most expensive new car in the world.

This thing was sold for a whopping €11 million, which converts to around $13.5 million as of December 2020.

Actually, the car on display is a concept car that Bugatti will keep, with the actual customer version still under construction. But it’s still a vehicle that you won’t see very often.

Bugatti introduced the La Voiture Noire at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. It is based on the Chiron, but it’s completely new on the outside, designed as a tribute to the iconic Type 57 SC Atlantic. It features an elongated nose and rear section, just like the Divo, as well as unique wing mirrors and an LED taillight strip. The La Voiture Noire is powered by the same 8.0-liter W-16 as the regular Chiron, so it’s rated at 1,479 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque. But it’s supposed to be a bit more comfortable to drive thanks heavily revised gearbox and AWD systems, as well as softer dampers.

Bugatti Just Put The La Voiture Noire On Christmas Display In Molsheim - image 829137

Bugatti Just Put The La Voiture Noire On Christmas Display In Molsheim - image 829137

Bugatti La Voiture Noir specifications
Engine W16 8.0 liters
Power 1,479 hp @ 6,700 rpm
Torque 1,180 lb-ft @ 2,000 – 6,000 rpm
0 to 60 mph 2.4 seconds
Top Speed 260 mph (est.)

Not the kind of car Santa Claus would drive, but I’d take a Bugatti on display over a Christmas market any day of the week.

1954 Kaiser Special – One of the Most Beautiful Failures in Automotive History

1954 Kaiser Special - One of the Most Beautiful Failures in Automotive History - image 919008

1954 Kaiser Special - One of the Most Beautiful Failures in Automotive History - image 919008

The Special was actually a version of the Manhattan and its design wasn’t entirely new for 1954. Kaiser had a big stock of unsold vehicles in 1953 so it changed a few parts on the existing bodies to create a new model.

It might sound lazy, but the sharp, concave grille and the bowed taillights made the sedan stand out among sedans from the era. The bubble-style roof and the arched beltline that became really low toward the rear add to its unique look as well.

Sadly, the Special arrived at a time when Kaiser was already struggling to survive. Frazer left the company in 1951, sales began to drop when GM and Ford launched their first new cars after World War II, and its six-cylinder engine was underpowered.

Kaiser halted U.S. production in 1955 with less than 8,000 Specials built. Many of them didn’t survive, so the Special is actually a rare automobile, but it will never become as desirable as other Detroit-built cars from the era. But it will always stand out as the unpopular car that’s different and downright beautiful.
